A Conceptual Development Plan was developed for the The Bluestone that highlights the cultural landscape of the beautiful Bluestone Valley. This plan indicates that approximately 265 acres of the site are proposed for active use. This includes:
The Conceptual Development Plan divides The Bluestone: A Regional Business & Technology Center into five major districts, each with its own distinct use. These districts include Bluestone East, Bluestone West, Bluestone Highlands, the golf course, and the Bluestone Center. BLUESTONE EAST
The Bluestone East district will feature incubator businesses which are linked to Tazewell County's existing Idea Park and will provide some of the most visible office and research-oriented parcels. BLUESTONE WEST
The Bluestone West district provides larger parcels which are less visible from U.S. Route 460 and will be appropriate for manufacturing, distribution and storage. The Bluestone West district will also provide a few residential lots in the upper reaches of the district. BLUESTONE HIGHLANDS
The Bluestone Highlands district will provide a resort site along the southern ridges of the site. GOLF COURSE
The Golf Course district will include a 9-hole public golf course along the frontage of the site which provides recreational opportunities and visual amenity in the floodplain and steep land portion of the site. BLUESTONE CENTER
The Bluestone Center district unites the other four districts and provides support for the planned community. The Bluestone Center district will include a multi-use village featuring conference space, lodging, daycare, residential space, and commercial space while being surrounded by the heritage spaces and the outbuildings of the old homeplace on the site.
